The Inevitable DJ Biography
A Washington-area progressive electro tech house DJ, Christauff has played professionally and ran weekly parties since 2004 with his crews Crichango Productions and District Ignition. He's held residencies at D.C.'s biggest night clubs including stints at Ibiza, FUR, Ultrabar, and Muse Lounge. These days, you can find him playing at Marx Cafe on 2nd and 4th Thursdays, playing future bass, tech house and nu disco from 6pm - 10:00pm.
Christauff discovered raves in high school in the early nineties, then moved to England for a bit and got a good look at how the rest of Europe partied. He attended London and Manchester clubs, got exposed to new music, fell in love with tech trance and drum and bass, and met a bunch of friends who DJ'd and fell deeply in love with dance music culture.
He returned from England right when it became possible to start finding hi-quality dance music online and began making mixes on his computer. Finally, he took the plunge and bought turntables. Like most starting DJ's he bought what he knew, and ended up playing hard Tiesto-style trance and progressive house and lots and lots of techno. After getting his first DJ residency at de Lounge, a gay night club in the DC suburbs, he learned about playing more to local tastes, as he quickly realized most people there wanted Gay house. Not liking just Madonna, Cher and the Village People remixes, he starting salting his sets with funky house and tech house.
Shortly thereafter in 2005, he started Crichango Productions with three other friends from de Lounge, and began throwing underground parties in the DC/Baltimore, MD area. In the summer of 2006, he formed District Ignition with his partners: Ciconte, ramz, 2rip, Pseudo Society, Dainbramage, Ciconte and LJ MTX (the duo known as The Octopus) and began running a weekly Friday event called Prefix at Ocean Drive nightclub the week after the legendary Nation Nightclub shuttered it's doors.
Before long, District Ignition moved up larger venues and began running weeklies at Ultrabar every Friday, a long-running event called Snatch that lasting from December 2006 to November 2009. During that time, District Ignition co-promoted events with Panorama Productions for their massive weekly party Glow @ FUR Nightclub and 4Play Thursdays at Ultrabar.
In November 2009 they moved Snatch to Muse Nightclub, calling it Snatch REWIRED, and brought in tech house, nu disco, dubstep, and progressive sounds with local DJ's opening at the parties.
Christauff has opened for many well-respected DJs over the years including Paul van Dyk, BT, Chris Lake, Seb Fontaine, Menno de Jong, Jerome Isma-Ae, Uberzone, Charles Feelgood, Edgar V, Steve Duda (BSOD) and Deepchild.
In May 2010, he played a three and half hour opening set for Paul Van Dyk in Baltimore, MD, a huge highlight of the year for him. He spent the rest of the summer playing patio parties at Glow @ FUR with DC's mnmlife crew, and began working on producing, while taking a break from running weekly parties.
Since winter 2010, you can find him every 2nd and 4th Thursday at Marx Cafe in Mt. Pleasant, Washington, DC running a free EDM happy hour called The WarmUp from 6:30pm onwards with the founder of Tavo's Trance Radio. Christauff runs the District Ignition Podcast and routinely plays on DI.fm's Tech House channel with the Mocean District.
